Harry and His Goats

As a pet photographer, I often get asked, "do you photograph animals other than dogs and cats too?!" and my go to answer is usually "so long as it has legs!" (sorry snakes). So when I got the chance to head north of San Diego to Temecula, I was super excited for this on-location farm photo session with Harry the Great Pyrenees and his goats, Daisy and Feather!

At 12 years old, Harry landed himself in the Lancaster Animal Shelter. He was found as a stray, and was on a 10 day stray hold to give time for his owner to be contacted because he was microchipped. The shelter was able to make contact with the owners, but they said they no longer wanted their dog because he had cancer.

I was so excited to photograph Harry's rescue transformation as part of my Freedom Project, documenting the life and love left behind in senior shelter dogs! Sound familiar? Frosted Faces Foundation even adopted it as their slogan! Great Pyrenees are natural livestock guardians, and lucky for Harry, farmers Mark and Renae volunteered to forever foster Harry and take him from discarded dog to gainfully employed. From the looks of it, he's a pretty happy worker!

And as luck would have it, Harry's farm friends are pretty thrilled to have him around too! Meet Feather and Daisy the goats and Princess Dot, the barn cat!

There is so much beauty and life left in Harry's eyes, I don't know how anyone ever let him go.

But what I do know - Harry has found his forever among his farm friends.
