The Pope Pack: Lifestyle Pet Photography

June 3, 2015

One of the best parts about being a pet photographer - outside getting to spend time photographing the cutest dogs and cats around - is the awesome community.  I'm lucky enough to be a member of a group of very talented pet photographers that extends far beyond the borders of San Diego, beyond Southern California, all the way out to places like Australia!  Recently, we were challenged to document a day in the life of our pets.  It's so easy to get caught up in scheduling clients, editing photos, and delivering fabulous dog art of other people's pets, and forget to capture those every day lifestyle moments with my own furkids!  Sure sure, I've got tons of Instagram snaps of #thepopepack, but there's something to be said for having professional pictures that really capture the brightness of their eyes and the little details of their noses (did you know Ellie has one white nostril?!).  So I spent Memorial Day weekend photographing my dogs...an extended lifestyle pet photography session of none other than The Pope Pack.

As with most weekends, it started with a trip to the dog park.

And as per the usual weekend agenda, "special breaky!"  Usually the dogs' weekend breakfast treat is eggs or bacon, but this was even more special, this my friends, was a 3 DAY WEEKEND!  Whipped cream for everyone!

 Naturally, followed by nap time....

 ...antler chewing...

 ...and snuggles!

Of course, there's no reason you can't have whipped cream one day and bacon the next ;)

To round out the weekend, we headed north of San Diego for a little day trip to Temecula wine country.  The girls accompanied us while Jake enjoyed some quiet time at home.  Initially I was disappointed - I had imagined soft, warm, sunlit grapevines in which to photograph the dogs.  But as it turned out, those stormy skies really did have a silver lining, and resulted in some fabulously dramatic pet portraits!
