Frequently Asked Questions About Dallas Dog and Equestrian Photography
Why do you photograph pets?
In 2010 I adopted a Bernese Mountain Dog named Jake who stole my heart, and for over 12 years I wanted nothing more than to find a way to keep him with me forever. He gained his wings on August 3, 2022 but his legacy will live forever in my heart and behind every photo I create for a client. This short video offers a glimpse behind the scenes of a session and into the heart of why my purpose is to make your dog's personality live forever.
Can I be in the photos with my dog or horse?
Absolutely. We'll take two types of photos - the "fireplace portrait" where everyone is smiling at the camera and candid/lifestyle. How many and what type of images will be based on your comfort in front of the camera, and your face doesn't even have to show if you prefer to just make a cameo appearance (these can often be the most powerful images emotionally)! In preparation for your session, we'll also offer advice on what to wear to complement your pet, the location, and your style.
What if my dog/horse can't be off lead or won't hold still?
The biggest hesitation we hear is "my dog won't sit still for photos." No problem! Unless we are in an enclosed area such as Fursailles - our 7-acre fenced photography farm - or a controlled space at your barn, dogs and horses are kept on leads to ensure safety. Our pet photography sessions are conducted with an experienced handler, who assists with keeping the dogs in place and is later removed in Photoshop to produce the final images. Take a peek behind the scenes at the makings of these Dallas pet photos by sliding the divider back and forth between the "before" and "after" to see the photo as we shot it and the fully retouched version!

Can you get good photos if my dog has black/dark fur?
Black/dark-faced dogs can be challenging to photograph with your phone. Never fear, we use lighting and editing to make every dog look their best.
Where is the best location for my dog photography session?
The setting of your dog photography session is an integral part of telling a story in your images. Fursailles, our 7-acre photo farm is situated in the suburbs of Dallas-Ft Worth and offers a pet photography location designed specifically for the joy and safety of your dog with unique features such as our big red barn, dock overlooking the pond, and more. Our indoor studio is climate controlled for the year-round comfort of our clients and canines and our Location Guide includes favorite spots around DFW. We'll work together to identify a meaningful setting that lends itself to creating artwork that fits the style of your home and the comfort of your dog.

What if the weather is bad the day of our session?
We reschedule for the next available date if the skies are gloomy, winds are high, or it's raining. Or if you're up for an added touch of drama, we can discuss proceeding if conditions are safe!
Do you photograph outside the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex?
Yes! Haute Dog has had the pleasure of traveling the world serving private and commercial clients with our "Runway Sessions" and Embark international pet photography vacations. We'd be happy to discuss travel commissions or add you to our travel list to be notified when we will be in your area.
How does the Dallas Dog Model Database work?
Haute Dog works with private and commercial clients alike to create personality-filled images. When we work with companies to design a session that makes their products stand out from the crowd, we often source models from our database according to their specifications (breed, size, appearance, age, talents, etc). If a commercial client hires us for a project and your dog meets the initial specifications, we'll reach out to you to discuss whether your dog may be the right fit for the job!
I want to learn to photograph dogs, do you offer mentorships?
